Pam and Tommy: a love story

Privacy. It’s needed, period. Some things are best kept to yourself. Some things you want to keep to yourself. It’s sacred. When you lose control, you feel like everyone is watching you.

That brings us to “Pam and Tommy” the Hulu miniseries based on a 2014 rolling stone article. It tells the story of model and actress Pamela Anderson and her rock and roll husband Tommy Lee. The series follows their love story and pubic scrutiny over a stolen sex tape.

The show is kind of a metaphor as it dives into their personal lives without their consent, much like the production has no involvement from Pamela Anderson or Tommy Lee

Please be advised the show is rated TV-MA. It contains graphic sex scenes, nudity, violence and drug use.

So what did I like about the show? The hair and makeup! It’s incredible! This is sci-fi movie level. I was in awe in every episode. This team did their homework. Very well done.

The 90s aesthetic. The attention to detail is outstanding. This was a very specific time. So small details like music, the beginning of the internet and the use of vintage clothing were very nice touches.

Lily James as Pamela Anderson. Not only is her transformation terrifyingly on point but so is her performance. Lily embodies Pam, not just doing an impersonation of her. She treats her with the utmost respect. Showing Pam’s sweet and gentle personality, despite the image. Telling her story without disrespecting her as a person. I predict some awards for this performance, because it's that incredible

Sebastian Stan as Tommy lee. He captures Tommy's rock and roll/badass/diva image. Yet still very charismatic. Especially showing his love for Pamela. It’s hard not to fall in love with him.

It tickles your funny bone. The camp factor is there. I would consider the series a dark comedy. It’s not a hardcore drama, although it does get serious. It’s not a comedy, but there’s moments that are hilarious and a little bizarre (Tommy’s crotch is a character). And who doesn’t enjoy a random musical number? For this series it works. For this time frame it works. This show is not “The Crown”, it’s okay to laugh a little.

Episodes 2 and 3, if you want the true love story of Pam and Tommy, this is it. It’s truly romantic, in an outrageous sort of way. Hard to believe that it all really happened. Made me fall in love with them as a couple.

Pamela’s Storyline. Pamela’s image was that of either a blonde bombshell or a bimbo. She actually is neither. She’s just a sweet girl from Canada. Sadly she was treated as an object and a joke, mainly by men. You see in the series that she never changed who she was, everyone around her did. All based on some preconceived notion. Or who she associated herself with. She always stood up for herself however, never allowing herself to be disrespected. The series captured this arc beautifully. This is down to the writing as well.

My only dislike was that the real Pam and Tommy were involved with the production. It would have been the icing on the cake.

So what’s my opinion of Pam and Tommy? I loved it. It’s no holds barred, in your face, and unapologetic. Much like the couple themselves. One of the biggest scandals of the 90s. This also reignited my love for Pamela Anderson and love for them as a couple. They were the Romeo and Juliet of the 90s with fame and greed tearing them apart.
